Corn has a long and varied history from use by native cultures to the agricultural monster it is today. Corn was grown primarily for human consumption then early settlers learned it could be grown more easily then their normal crops and turned into other products, such as bourbon whiskey and even beer (whiskey is only bourbon when made with corn). Corn on the cob was vendored on the streets of early New York, preceded the street vendors as we know them today. As the years went by more and more things were processed from corn such as animal feed, from cows and pigs to chickens and even our household pet food. Comparatively Canada grows very little corn not even listing in the top 10 producers of corn worldwide, with the top 3 spots going to the USA, Asia/China and parts of Europe. While corn makes its way into alot of our processed foods it also makes its way into our plastics, adhesives, and fabrics (via corn starch primairly) ex. doormats, brushes, and matresses
